I got the cassette to LPS the day it came out. I think it was 1990. I didn't yet own a CD Player. You hit the nail right on the head about the difference between Harry in the studio, and Harry live. The song "Last Protest Singer" is a great song. It's sung pretty horribly. I always hoped that Harry never intended this to be the final take. Great thought about it being over produced. That's very interesting. I know some of the over prod is a slick attempt to mask some bad editing. All they had was the stuff in the can. They couldn't quite go for another take. I also feel they did the same thing with Harry that they did with John Lennon in that "new" song Free as a Bird. Had John been alive, there'd have been no need for Paul, George and Ringo to all get their grubby hands all over it. Hence, obligatory over production. Also, just for trivia purposes, did you notice some of the bad edits? During Last Stand (a fabulous song, by the way), at the beginning of the first chorus......... "So you circle all the waggons, and you hide behind the trees and (bad edit) yoof try to find some courage on your knees" Since "yoof" isn't a word.....Harry actually must have said "and you've (something)" It's a digital blade cut. Next try Sounds Like America To Me (another gem!), having not sung the song too much when he recorded it, he jumped the gun after the second chorus, and over anticipated the third verse "ssssssssssSometimes a simple question is much better than the truth." I love this album. Especially; Anthem, Quiet Little Love Affair, Silly Little Girl and my favorite, classic Harry, I Don't Want To Be President. You're right, a simple guitar track, just left alone, would have been priceless. Brian
